I have not tried them yet, but I am thinking of finding a small camera case where I can carry the recorder, the tripods, and all the other little things like cords and adaptors in case I want to record in the field somewhere. The H2n can use rechargeable NiMH batteries, it says so in the manual. All stars 5 star only 4 star only 3 star only 2 star only 1 star only All positive All critical All stars.

The Zoom H2 is not durable enough or quick enough for the professional looking for a more rugged product. A switch on the top of the H2n allows you to select from a number of different multi-mic setups. Build quality is fine – I have no complaints. Yes it is small, but so is the microphone itself.

And going out to do field recordings is a good excuse to get away from the computer for a while. Consider it. Sell all of the tracks separately. It sounds pretty good, too. For you audio techs and video creators out there, the H2n has you covered for voice-overs.

The main reason the H2n is my go-to mic is because of its portability. The Alesis PalmTrack is similar in size and does both stereo and omnidirectional recording by way of multiple capsules, but is optimised for cost, not quality. Tascam’s DR has two omni and two directional microphones, as does Roland’s new R26, but both are pitched at semi-pros with deeper pockets.

The H2n in no way diminishes Zoom’s reputation as innovative designers. It’s designed to be simple to use and even operates as a card reader and audio interface.

Pros Large screen. Long battery life. Ships with Wavelab LE7 software. Cons Screen position is inconvenient in certain recording situations. Can’t use 96kHz in 4-channel mode. Accessories cost extra. Summary The H2n in no way diminishes Zoom’s reputation as innovative designers. Our biggest pet peeve with the Zoom H2, however, is the 27 seconds it takes to start up. Maybe our short attention spans have got the better of us, but when it comes to quickly capturing an interview or a performance, 27 seconds can really kill the spontaneity.

Powered by a pair of AA batteries, Zoom rates the H2 at four hours of continuous operation. Like most portable audio recorders, however, expect that the H2’s battery performance will vary depending on the recording resolution you’ve selected. If you’re looking for a durable mobile recorder with knock-out sound quality, however, you’ll need to spend some extra money on the competition. Tech Mobile. One criticism I have read in other reviews concerns the screen size. Yes it is small, but so is the microphone itself.

Zoom seem to have put a lot of thought into this microphone. Before buying a H2 I was a little sceptical about the amount of use I would get out of it, but since owning one those fears have been allayed.

For anyone needing quick and easy, good quality, sound recordings, at a reasonable price, the Zoom H2 seems to offer the solution. The reviewer does not understand the things that make this mic the best portable audio recorder.

First, the the real pros are — ease of use, value for money, and great sound quality. To be able to record with mid-side, xy, or surround is perfect. Low cut filter, metronome.. For the cons, 1. There are rechargable AA batteries. Put it on a Tripod. Tripods for audio, lights, and cameras can all work. Say your in the middle of recording a croud track for a benifit cd and the bands are playing all day.

Your batteries are about to die. When they take a break or even between songs you can pop in a new set of batteries. With a built in rechargable your out of commission for a couple of hours.

Of course unless you perefer hooking up to your laptop in the middle of a mosh pit…. If you like to save the environment and use rechargable batteries, you can use nickle metal hydride batteries and the unit even has a setting to account for the voltage differences from alkaline batteries.
